ROAR is a small-production winery, and our wines are offered through seasonal allocations rather than a traditional tasting room or automatic wine club.

Members of our allocation list receive access to new releases during scheduled offering periods in the Spring and Fall. There is no obligation to purchase, and we do not automatically charge or ship wine. You simply choose the wines and quantities you would like from your available offering.

Because our production is limited, bottle limits apply to our wines.

There is no mandatory minimum purchase. Each allocation is simply an invitation to order, and you can select the wines and quantities that feel right for you.

Since our production is limited, future offerings are influenced by recent purchase history and availability. Members who participate regularly receive larger allocations over time, while our most limited wines may not be available to everyone in every release.

ROAR offers wines twice each year, with a Spring allocation in February and a Fall allocation in August.

Each allocation includes a curated selection of single-vineyard Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Rhône-varietal wines from the Santa Lucia Highlands. Occasionally, we may also share a special library offering or small one-off release outside of the regular seasonal schedule.

Most years, we offer our Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir and Chardonnay year-round on our offering page.

Release windows are time-limited, and our single vineyard designate wines can sell through quickly.

If you miss a release, you can reach out to contact@roarwines.com. We are happy to put together a curated offering based on availability.

We do our best to offer some quantity of each wine to as many members as possible. Allocation quantities are determined by availability, which can vary each vintage based on yields and the production size of each wine.

Because our wines are limited, we also consider each member’s history with ROAR. Long-standing members and those who participate consistently in prior releases may receive priority access or larger allocations, especially for our smallest-production wines.

When production is especially small, certain wines may not be available to every member. In those cases, priority is given to members with longer-standing purchase history.

ROAR does not operate a public tasting room. Our time is focused on farming our vineyards and producing small-lot wines for our allocation members.

Having said that, on a seasonal basis private appointments can be made for touring our Castroville production facility. Please reach out to contact@roarwines.com for availability.

Yes, ROAR ships to most U.S. states where direct-to-consumer wine shipping is permitted. We use UPS as our primary carrier and also offer FedEx when available.

An adult signature from someone 21 or older is required upon delivery. For the most reliable experience, we recommend shipping to a business address, UPS Store, FedEx location, or Walgreens pickup location where available.

ROAR ships directly to all states except: AR, DE, KY, LA, ME, MS, NH, ND, RI, UT, VT, and WV.

For some states where we cannot ship directly, orders may be shipped through our third-party partner, Buffalo Shipping Post in Napa Valley. Buffalo Shipping Post can assist with shipments to AR, DE, KY, LA, ND, RI, VT, and WV. To use this service, customers need to set up an account with Buffalo Shipping Post. Shipping charges are billed directly by them once the order is received.

If you would like to pick up your order, please select or note that preference when placing your order, or contact us directly to make arrangements. Because we do not operate a public tasting room, pickups are coordinated individually and are generally available Monday through Friday.

Yes. We take the quality of our wine seriously all the way to your door and monitor weather conditions before shipping.

Part of the reason for our Spring and Fall release timing is so we can bypass the most extreme temperatures in the summer and winter months. If temperatures create a risk for your shipment, we will adjust the shipping timing accordingly.

Temperature-controlled shipping options may also be available seasonally, though our preference is always to ship when temperatures are not a risk factor.

Although rare, an individual bottle may occasionally be affected by a cork-related issue or another naturally occurring fault. If you believe a bottle may be compromised, please retain the bottle and cork and contact us at contact@roarwines.com or 800-540-7627. Please include the wine, vintage, and details of your experience. We will be happy to look into it and, when appropriate, issue a credit.

The Santa Lucia Highlands is a small winegrowing region in Monterey County, California, set along a narrow bench at the base of the Santa Lucia Range overlooking the Salinas Valley.

The region is shaped by its proximity to Monterey Bay, where deep, cold waters help pull fog and wind into the valley each day. Combined with a range of topography, well-draining soils, and a long growing season, these conditions allow grapes to ripen slowly while maintaining natural freshness.

For Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, the Santa Lucia Highlands offers a rare balance of richness and precision. The wines often show generous fruit, vibrant structure, and a distinct coastal character that reflects the place they are grown.

This cool, windy climate slows ripening and extends the growing season, allowing the grapes to develop flavor gradually while retaining natural acidity. The wind also helps create smaller berries with thicker skins, which can contribute depth, structure, and aromatic intensity to the wines.

Our family has farmed in the Santa Lucia Highlands for four generations, and that continuity shapes how we care for our vineyards. We farm with careful attention to soil health, water use, vine balance, and the natural conditions of each site.

The Franscioni family has been farming in the Santa Lucia Highlands for four generations.

Our roots in the region trace back to Swiss-Italian immigrants who came to the Salinas Valley in 1886. The family began with cattle, later moved into vegetable farming, and eventually planted vineyards in the mid-1990s.

Gary Franscioni planted the family’s first vineyard, Rosella’s Vineyard, around the family home. He later co-founded Garys’ Vineyard with Gary Pisoni, continuing a farming tradition built on trust, hard work, and a deep connection to the land.

Today, that history still shapes ROAR. The Santa Lucia Highlands is where our family has lived, worked, and cared for the land for generations.

ROAR’s winemaking philosophy is to preserve the character of each vineyard rather than shape every wine into a single house style.

Because we farm distinct sites across the Santa Lucia Highlands, each vineyard naturally expresses itself differently. Rosella’s often shows elegance and lifted red fruit, while sites farther south, such as Sierra Mar, tend to show more structure, darker fruit, and savory, herbal character.

In the cellar, our approach is thoughtful and restrained. Each lot is handled carefully from fermentation through barrel aging, with the goal of protecting the vineyard character that was established in the field. We bottle with minimal handling and without filtration to preserve character and vineyard expression.

ROAR wines are crafted to be enjoyable upon release, while also having the balance and structure to develop with time in the cellar when stored properly.

The cool climate of the Santa Lucia Highlands helps preserve natural acidity, while careful farming and gentle cellar work support depth, texture, and complexity. Many members enjoy our wines young for their energy and expressive fruit, while others prefer to cellar select bottles for added nuance over time.

As a general guide, many members enjoy our wines within the following windows:

› Viognier: release through ten years

These are not firm limits. Many bottles often age beyond these windows and the above is just a guide based on when most of our members prefer their drinking windows.

There is no single right time to open a bottle. It ultimately comes down to personal preference and how you enjoy wine.
