Long before the vines were planted, the landscape played an important role in Rosella’s life. She spent her childhood in the countryside of Durango, Mexico, where the rural land shaped everyday life. When she later arrived in the Salinas Valley, the setting felt familiar. “I love the countryside in the Santa Lucia Highlands. Fog, wind and wildlife set the tone,” she says.
When Gary began developing the vineyard around their family home, Rosella admired the care he brought to farming it. At the same time, she wanted the property to become more than a place where grapes were grown.
“I am swept away by Gary’s instinct for farming,” she says. “But this is where we live, and I wanted the place to be beautiful and feel like home.”
