Reviews & Press : Garys' Vineyard Pinot Noir, 2005 & earlier

2005 Garys' Vineyard Pinot Noir
94 points - Dark ruby/purple-hued with an extraordinary bouquet of flowers, forest floor, black cherry jam, currants, and blacker fruits, the 2005 Pinot Noir Garys’ Vineyard displays a broad, savory, full-bodied mouthfeel, remarkable length, and stunning opulence. It is a gorgeous Pinot to drink now and over the next decade. This brilliant Pinot Noir is among the finest produced in California.

2005 Garys' Vineyard Pinot Noir

2005 Garys' Vineyard Pinot Noir
TWO AND A HALF STARS -Loaded with barnyard and hay that almost overshadow the fruit, there are still floral notes in this bottling of Garys' Vineyard fruit. Secondary notes add complexity with hints of tamari, nutmeg and cola. This is a big wine, though not without nuance.

2004 Garys' Vineyard Pinot Noir
95 points - Medium ruby color; deep, rich aromas of black cherry, bacon and sweet oak; ripe, rich, black cherry, spice, sweet oak, with a touch of smoky bacon, very silky and deep; good structure and balance; long finish. An amazingly deep and complex Pinot that cries out for a deep, earthy meat dish; it also has the silkiness and bright fruit to be a delight to drink all by itself.

94 points - Wow! I was blown away by these Pinot Noirs from Roar. They all reveal unbelievable complexity, richness, and the extraordinary potential that exists in the Santa Lucia Highlands for this varietal. The dark ruby-hued 2004 Pinot Noir Garys' Vineyard exhibits wonderful smoky, gamy characteristics interwoven with black currants and cherries. Approximately 60% new French oak is used, but the wine reveals wonderful integration of wood, acidity, and tannin. Full-bodied, fleshy, and beautifully expansive, this is another fragrant, compelling Pinot Noir from this up-and-coming producer.

95 points - Medium-deep ruby color; subtle, pretty aromas of black cherry, plum and spice; rich, ripe, black cherry and plum flavors with spicy, sweet oak notes and light tannins; great structure and balance; long finish. Rich and beautiful, this Pinot is another in a string of great wines from Gary Franscioni. Siduri's Adam Lee is the winemaker.

95 Points - When pinot lovers find a beautiful, seductive wine like this Roar Garys' Vineyard bottling, we just want to put everything else aside, take our time and explore this terrific wine.

2003 Garys' Vineyard Pinot Noir
88 points - More earthy, with cinnamon, spice box, herb, plum, and cherry characteristics, the 2003 Pinot Noir Garys' Vineyard is made in a completely different style than the regular bottling. Less fruit and more spice-driven with an austere finish, it is a very good to excellent Pinot Noir to drink over the next 3-5 years.

2002 "Best California Pinot Vintage Ever"
"Adding thrill to the Pinot hunt is that many of the hottest wines come from newcomers - Loring, Melville, Kosta Browne, ROAR, McPhail and Sea Smoke." - James Laube, The Wine Spectator "The debut releases from Roar in particular offered uncommon richness and depth of flavor, but you'll have to move fast on these"
