We are a family winery specializing in small lots
of Santa Lucia Highland's Pinot Noir. Our roots in the Santa Lucia Highlands
are quite deep. We both grew up in California's agricultural heartland
and Gary and his family before him have farmed our vineyard property for
over 100 years. After graduating from Cal Poly with a degree in agribusiness,
Gary took over the running of the family farm business, which owned and
managed over 200 acres of row crops in the Salinas Valley. Recognizing
the region's potential for premium wine grapes, we planted Rosella's
Vineyard in 1996. We also co-own and manage the Garys'
Vineyard with Gary Pisoni of Pisoni Vineyard.
Both vineyards have developed a reputation among high-end wineries for
low yields of intensely flavored grapes. After working with several wineries
to develop the pedigree of the vineyards and the region, we decided in
2001 to make our wine. We were delighted that our good friends and longtime
customers Adam & Dianna Lee of Siduri Wines agreed to collaborate
with us on the making of ROAR WINES. Our goal with ROAR WINES is to make
small lots of wine that are a pure reflection of the Santa Lucia Highlands
and in particular the signature flavors of our vines. The name ROAR comes
from the sound of the coastal winds that define the region and the roar
of the mountain creeks that bisect the rocky, well-drained soils of our
vineyards.
ROAR WINES was launched in March of 2003 with the Spring release of the 2001
Rosella's Vineyard Pinot Noir and 2001 Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir
followed by the Summer release of our 2001 Garys' Vineyard Pinot Noir and 2001
Pisoni Vineyard Pinot Noir. In 2004, in addition to the above wines we
released our first Syrah, the 2002 Santa Lucia Highlands Syrah. In 2005, we will add
a second Syrah, the 2003 Rosella's Vineyard Syrah. We hope you enjoy our
wines and thank you for your support and for spreading the word about ROAR WINES
to your family and friends.
